Troopers seize 103 pounds of marijuana in Preble County

LEWISBURG – Four suspects are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 103 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $128,750, following a traffic stop in Preble County.

Troopers stopped a 2011 Buick Enclave, with Michigan registration, for an unsafe lane change on Interstate 70 eastbound, near milepost 12, at 6:12 p.m. on June 1. Upon approaching the vehicle the trooper observed a strong odor of raw marijuana. Other criminal indicators were observed a probable cause search revealed the marijuana.

The driver, Michael E. Robinson, 39, of New Castle, Pa., and passengers: Carl Perkins, 36, also of New Castle, Pa.; Estaban R. Sanchez, 28, and Heleman Telles, 35, both of Las Cruces, N.M., were charged with possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

The suspects were incarcerated in the Preble County Jail. If convicted each could face up to nine years in prison and up to a $17,500 fine.
