Chillicothe – Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts in southern Ohio are being urged to take special caution by the task force searching for escaped inmate John W. Parsons, who last week was named to the FBI’s top 10 wanted list.

Parsons is considered to be armed and dangerous, and anyone with information on his whereabouts, or who believes they may have spotted him, is urged to immediately contact law enforcement authorities. Members of the public should not attempt to apprehend Parsons on their own.

Additionally, motorists in southern Ohio are reminded to secure their vehicles when they are unoccupied. Hunters who notice anything unusual with their cabins, should immediately contact law enforcement authorities.

Parsons has brown hair, brown eyes, mustache, and goatee. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He also has a large tattoo of angel wings across the back of his neck.

There is currently a total reward of $125,000 being offered by the task force for information which leads to Parsons’ arrest. Parsons, who was charged with killing Chillicothe police Officer Larry Cox in April 2005, escaped from the jail on July 29. He was scheduled to go on trial this month for the slaying.

Ross County Sheriff Ron Nichols continues to encourage the public’s involvement in the search for Parsons. Anyone with information regarding the location of Parsons is asked to call 740-772-9696 or 740-773-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-400-TIPS (8477).

The task force includes the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, U.S. Marshal’s Office, and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
