iPOD video users can now download
famous traffic safety films and Ohio dash-cam video

COLUMBUS – From safety films shown to new drivers in the 1950’s to modern day in-car video from Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers, today’s iPOD and similar device users now have another download option. Among the iPOD compatible films the Ohio State Highway Patrol has made available on their Web site, www.statepatrol.ohio.gov, are Signal 30, produced in the 1950s, and also Signal 30: Tragedy and Hope – 50 Years later.

The Patrol’s Web site registers over 31,000 visitors per week. It has been used to help capture wanted fugitives, and also allows users to schedule driver examinations, order crash reports, and apply to become a state trooper. The Patrol’s Internet in-car video library is among the nation’s most comprehensive law enforcement on-line video libraries. All the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s marked cruisers are equipped with in-car video cameras.

“It is imperative that motorists are educated about traffic safety and understand the dangers on Ohio’s roadways,” Colonel Paul McClellan, Patrol superintendent said. “Troopers across the state are focused and dedicated to reducing traffic fatalities, injuries, and tragedy on Ohio roadways by educating drivers and enforcing Ohio’s traffic laws. This latest enhancement to our Web site is another tool to help achieve that goal.”

Visitors to the Patrol’s Web site can also utilize Google Earth™ to view vehicle, alcohol, commercial, and motorcycle crash locations; maps surrounding crash locations; and to see specific crash details. Last month, the Patrol, in partnership with The Ohio State University Statistical Consulting Service posted access to computer model forecasts of exact locations, times, and causes of crashes near Ohio’s largest cities.
