Patrol investigating fatal shooting on Ohio Turnpike
CLEVELAND - The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Berea Headquarters is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike (Interstate 80) in the city of Broadview Heights.

The victim, Gulam Moonda, 65, of Hermitage, Penn., died from an apparent single gunshot wound to the head during a reported roadside robbery. Moonda was pronounced dead at the scene by LifeFlight EMS personnel.

At approximately 6:38 p.m. yesterday, troopers from the Patrol’s Hiram Post responded to a report of an injury on Interstate 80 westbound, near milepost 164, in the city of Broadview Heights. Upon arrival, troopers discovered Moonda had been shot in the head after a roadside robbery had occurred. Moonda was occupying a 2000 Jaguar along with two other people when they stopped along I-80 to exchange drivers. It is reported that during that exchange, an unknown suspect driving a dark colored van stopped with the victim and demanded money. The suspect carried out the robbery, shot Moonda and fled the scene.

Also assisting in the investigation is the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office. The Broadview Heights Fire Department and EMS were also at the scene assisting.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Berea Headquarters Investigation Section of the Patrol at (440) 234-2096.
