Patrol examiners working from the Mobile DX are currently providing service in McArthur and Waverly, with potential expansion to other areas depending on customer needs. The Mobile DX, which is operated by a Driver License Examiner, and has four testing kiosks available for customers. The vehicle is also equipped with a wheelchair lift for ADA compliance.
“This vehicle gives us the platform from which to offer a full service operation to the citizens of Pike and other southern Ohio counties,” Colonel Paul D. McClellan, Ohio State Highway Patrol superintendent, said. “Working from our new mobile driver examination station, our examiners can offer complete knowledge tests in the morning, driving skills tests in the afternoon, and process all the appropriate paperwork needed by our customers who are seeking to obtain their driving privileges.”
The Mobile DX, which was primarily funded through a $200,000 grant from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, allows Patrol personnel to conduct knowledge and skills driver licensing tests in areas of the state where services have not recently been available.
"In times of tight budgets it is necessary to develop new solutions and new methods to serve the people," said Kenneth Morckel, Director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, said. "This joint venture between the Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles is proof of our commitment to ensuring that essential government services are accessible to all Ohioans."
Customers can make testing appointments for the Mobile DX by calling 1-877-899-TEST. Locations and hours of operation are available at (740) 456-0135, and on the “County Services” page of the Patrol’s Web site, www.statepatrol.ohio.gov/counties.html.
