COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol released Patrol and West Carrollton Police Department in-car video of yesterday's crash during a DUI traffic stop on Interstate 75 in the city of West Carrollton in Montgomery County.
The first segment of the released in-car video is from West Carrollton PD Patrolman Gene D. Jarman's cruiser. The video shows Robert W. Stein's vehicle striking Patrolmen Jamen’s cruiser, forcing it into Tpr. Albright’s patrol car.
The second segment of the in-car video is from Dayton Patrol Post Tpr. Kyle T. Albright's cruiser. The video shows the impact of the patrol car when it struck Tpr. Albright, Patrolman Jarman, and Lance R. Edwards, who was pinned between the cruiser and his own vehicle. Edwards was being arrested for DUI.
The Patrol video shows Tpr. Albright immediately calling for assistance, despite his own injuries. He then frees Edwards from between the two vehicles.
At 2:41 a.m. yesterday, Tpr. Albright, assisted by Patrolman Jarman, was conducting a traffic stop of Edwards, 42, of Dayton, on I-75, at milepost 47 in West Carrollton. While Edwards was being arrested for DUI, a pickup truck driven by Stein, 50, of Kettering, struck the left rear of Patrolmen Jarman’s cruiser, forcing it into Tpr. Albright’s patrol car. The patrol car then struck Tpr. Albright, Patrolman Jarman, and Edwards.
Tpr. Albright, Patrolman Jarman, and Edwards were transported to Miami Valley Hospital where they were treated and released. Stein was also transported to Miami Valley Hospital and admitted. He was not wearing a safety belt.
The West Carrollton Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Carrollton Fire Department assisted at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Patrol, with assistance from the West Carrollton Police Department.
