Patrol records largest marijuana seizure worth $3.9 million

PIQUA – Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers made the largest marijuana seizure in the Division’s history yesterday on Interstate 70 in Preble County and filed felony charges on two suspects in connection with the seizure.

Timothy Baggot, 23, of Universal City, Texas, and Timothy Harris, 24, of Cibolo, Texas, were each charged with possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony.

At 1 p.m. yesterday, a 1997 GMC straight truck, driven by Baggot, pulled into a weigh station on eastbound Interstate 70, milepost 1, in Preble County for a Department of Transportation inspection. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office drug-detecting canine alerted to the truck and a probable cause search revealed 1,700 pounds of marijuana hidden within boxes in the back of the truck. The marijuana has an estimated street value of approximately $3.9 million.

Baggot and Harris were incarcerated at the Preble County Jail. They are scheduled to appear today in the Preble County Municipal Court. If convicted, each could face up to eight years in prison, and up to a $15,000 fine.
