Patrol seizes 48 kilos of cocaine worth $4.8 million

TOLEDO – A Los Angeles, Calif. man and woman are scheduled to appear today in the Maumee Municipal Court after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized $4.8 million worth of cocaine last night on Interstate 80 in Lucas County.

Gerardo Trujillo-Brabo, 44, and Gloria E. Salamanca-Robles, 30, were each charged with possession of cocaine and trafficking cocaine, both first-degree felonies, and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

Troopers stopped a 1997 Acura SUV driven by Trujillo-Brabo, for a marked lanes violation on eastbound Interstate 80, milepost 55, in Lucas County at 10:06 p.m. yesterday. Patrol drug-detecting canines alerted to the Acura, and a probable cause search revealed 48 kilos of cocaine in the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of approximately $4.8 million.

Trujillo-Brabo and Salamanca-Robles were incarcerated at the Lucas County Justice Center. If convicted, each could face up to 21 years in prison, and up to a $42,500 fine.
